Wk 10 reflection Jane Kennedy

I came across a discussion blog just like ours!

Gender and Technology Spring 2009” outlines the scholarly, in class discussion within a multi-disciplinary course, Gender and Technology, taught at Bryn Mawr’s College. Information from this blog is current and up to date, attributes the opinions and arguments of gender studies students, like ourselves, and is associated with a reputable institution. An introductory blog page that outlines the study syllabus highlights the validity of its postings and discussions to my research for WOMN2005. For example it states that the course will explore “how technologies have been used to construct gender” looking particularly at “women’s involvement in technological practices”. Posts from the course’s coordinator Anne Dalke would be of particular credibility as she is a Senior lecturer in English at the college and has published other scholarly, peer reviewed books and articles in the field of gender studies. Her post “What really happened…” raises several arguments and questions that facilitate avenues for further research and analysis valid to WOMN2205. For example, the post explores the agency of online anonymity, and the manifestation of one’s self within a digital space. The possible proximity between online and “real” life contexts, identities and experiences is also discussed. Additionally, the post highlights the gendered nature of some online games and digital environments, making reference to particular findings from a study on gender and gaming.
